The Problem

Like traditional television distribution services such as cable and satellite, Planetvu licenses and distributes live and on-demand television services to its subscribers. However, unlike traditional cable and satellite, Planetvu has a global distribution footprint, and its programming is distributed across public networks rather than private networks such as cable.

The Solution

Planetvu looked toward Internap and its Content Delivery Network (CDN) Services and selected a combination of technologies to deliver live on-demand TV programming across the public Internet. A team of Internap® network engineers configured its premise-based route optimization technology to accelerate Planetvu’s point-to-point backhaul of signals from Dubai to New York City. With network speed being critical to application availability, Internap optimized the performance of Planetvu’s live video across 6,000 miles by overcoming the distance-induced limitations of various Internet protocols.

Once inside the Internap robust data center, the Internap Content Delivery Network was utilized to deliver Planetvu’s live video using the Windows Media platform.

Finally, the Internap MediaConsole® application allows Planetvu to easily acquire business intelligence and other important metrics such as audience size, location and viewing time needed to assess ROI.
